He thanks him for sending 'the numbers of the Scientific Roll', and asks to be put down as a subscriber. 'I shall try to get the others. - | By today's mail I forward two papers.' Meldrum's entry in the Oxford DNB states that from 'his outpost' he 'produced the first recognizably modern weather maps for the Southern Ocean at about the same time as Alexander Buchan in Edinburgh was doing so for the Atlantic', and that he 'exploited his remote situation and made a defining contribution to meteorology'.
