14pp.,12mo. In blue printed wraps with title on front. In fair condition, lightly aged and worn. The first 8pp. carry 'Extracts from Remark Book, | Hotel de Paris, Benares. | Season 1902-1903.' The last 6pp. - in what must surely be an egregious breach of etiquette - carry a 'List of Visitors. | Hotel de Paris, Benares. | Season 1902.-1903.' In double column, with 'Names and places. All the visitors are white, with America better represented than Britain. Visitors include 'Lady Brown, Edinburgh', 'Count Alphonse de Fleurier, [Paris]'. 'Mr. Phillippe [sic] Von Hoffman, Manchester' and 'Viscount de Caret, Paris'. 'The presence of 'Sir, [sic] Henry Tichborne, Hants, England' must raise some doubts over veracity. Lady Brown's remark, although somewhat on the long side, is not untypical: 'I cannot speak highly enough of this most comfortable, clean and well managed Hotel. The manager has made us so comfortable personally. I leave with regret, and scarcely hope to find any where else in India such thoughtful attendance. The servants of the Hotel de Paris are most attentive.' No other copy found, either on OCLC WorldCat or on COAPC.
