1p., 12mko. Bifolium. In fair condition, lightly aged and worn. Addressed on reverse of second leaf to 'Mr. John Reid'. In part at least a joke, the letter reads: 'Dear Sir, | You owe me a hat. To save you the trouble of going along with me to a fabricator of chapeaux I shall buy one myself at a Guinea, and as I owe you a small amount you can set down that sum to my credit. This is as broad as it is long & the same to both parties - | Yours faithfully | R. M.' Macnish does not feature in Wilson life of Reid, but Reid did graduate from the University of Edinburgh in 1830.
