The four Lawrence Asylums were founded at the desire of Sir Henry Montgomery Lawrence as boarding schools for the sons of British Army officers in India. What is now the Lawrence School, Lovedale, is now one of the most exclusive schools in India. 3pp., 12mo. Bifolium. In good condition, lightly aged. He has 'just read the telegram in the “Madras Mail” announcing the fact that the Viceroy has appointed you an Additional Member of the Supreme Legislative Council', and feels that Rees will 'fittingly' receive congratulations 'from many friends in your own and other Services, expressing their gratification that your pre-eminent abilities and distinguished services have been thus recognised'. He wishes to add his own congratulations, and thanks Rees for having 'proved, through nearly four very anxious years, a staunch friend and an invaluable adviser'. From the Rees papers.
