Both letters in good condition, lightly aged; and each 1p., 12mo. ONE: He thanks her for her letter asking him if he has any of his drawings for sale, and states that he has some book illustrations and a few drawings that he made 'for Punch when I was a member of the staff'. He continues 'I have one or two from my favourite book “The Wind in the Willows”. All the illustrations that I did for the “Pooh” books I gave to the Victoria and Albert Museum 2 years ago.' He ends: 'Perhaps you will kindly let me know how much you wish to spend on a drawing'. TWO: After thanking her for a letter enclosing a postal order for two pounds, he contradicts his statement of a week before: 'I have none of the original drawings for “Wind in the Willows”. It is my favourite book and I thoroughly enjoyed illustrating it.' In the autumn the publishers Methuen are to publish 'an edition in full colour with over 100 illustrations', and he will ask them to reserve a copy which he will send her 'in due course'. One assumes that the postal order was returned with this letter.
