Sandford's large, bold signature is across the centre of the page, beneath the printed text. The page is headed by a large monogram of Sandford's initials, beneath which is printed: 'HER ROYAL HIGHNESS THE PRINCESS OF WALES AND MISS EDITH SANDFORD. | MISS EDITH SANDFORD received from H.R.H. THE PRINCESS OF WALES a most kind letter enclosing a very handsome present, and expressing her Royal Highness's regret on hearing of the fearful accident Miss Sandford had met with in Dublin, August, 1871. Miss Sandford received a similar gratifying compliment from EARL SPENCER, Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, and in his letter his Lordship said “he sincerely hoped the Irish people would not be long deprived of Miss Sandford's valuable services.”'
