The ascent of Mount Ararat took place in 1857, while Gordon was leading a mission of the Royal Engineers ('sappers') to delineate the border between Russian and Ottoman Armenia. While he did not himself reach the summit of Mount Ararat, he did toboggan down it. 3pp., 12mo. Bifolium. In fair condition, aged and worn. She thanks him for 'the interesting account of your meeting one of the sappers who attempted the ascent of Mount Ararat with my brother'. She says that she 'knew one of the party reached the top, and I believe took with him a bottle, in which my brother had put a paper with his name etc.' She ends by sending best wishes to Robson's family: 'it is long since I have heard of any of you'.
