He is sending 'a copy of a work by me on Early New York [i.e. 'New Amsterdam and its People: Studies, Social and Topographical, of the Town under Dutch and Early English Rule' (1902)], published by Chas Scribners Sons, about a year ago'. He begins by describing the book, 'through its general plan', as 'a systematic survey and description of New Amsterdam or New York as it was in 1655, a few years before its capture from the Dutch'.
