[Pamphlets] [The Association of Head Mistresses, 29 Gordon Square, London (Misses R. Young, M. E. Martin and G. Durden Smith, secretaries)] - 26 items, 1923-1957.
Comprising: ONE. An unbroken run of 18 issues of the Association's reports from 1923 to 1940, with the three issues for 1945, 1953-1954 and 1956-1957 (including a duplicate of the 1931 issue. TWO. Four issues of 'List of Members, Committees and Representatives' (each including 'Proceedings of Annual General Meeting'), 1938-1939, 1939-1940, 1949-1950 and 1951-1952. All 26 items published by the Association of Head Mistresses, 29 Gordon Square, WC1 [London]. 1923-1957. [Most printed by the Blackheath Press, London.] Uniform 8vo booklets, in printed wraps (green until 1935 when the colours start to vary), and sewn until 1938, when they begin to be stapled, ranging in length from 37 to 148pp., growing in length until the late 1930s, and then dwindling in length to the last and shortest issue, 1956-1957. The reason for the fall in length from 1937 (140 + [1]pp.) to 1938 (74 + [1]pp.) is that with the latter issue the 'List of Members, Committees and Representatives are published in a separate booklet', of which the four present in this collection are examples. These are of similar design to the reports, in wraps of various colours, and ranging in length from 74 to 91pp., 8vo. Both the reports and membership lists are uncommon. COPAC records runs of both at Leeds, Bristol and the University of London, with single copies at a few locations including the LSE, and a run of the latter from 1955 at the British Library.
