Bookplate, 14 x 9cm, sl. worn but complete and readable. Decorated hesading (College Arms?), Text in Latin, translated as follows: 'The provost and senior fellows of Trinity College Dublin have given this literary prize to the honourable young man of great hope John Leslie Foster, Fellow Commoner, on account of his outstanding progress in the arts in the second class, an examination having been held at the beginning of Hilary Term, 1798. Witness: John Barrett, Principal Praelector.' Baret was a noted Hebrew Scholar and known as an eccentric.The document is a bookplate that would be pasted into a book given as an academic reward. I believe this John Leslie Foster was the Irish Tory MP (1780-1842).
