Autograph Note Signed to Mr. Robertson (not in Maxted - see address on verso).
Astronomer and Radcliffe Librarian (1733-1810). Became Librarian in 1783. One page, 4to, chipped and stained but text readable. "Mr. Hornsby presents his Compliments to Mr. Robertson, & begs the favour of him to deliver the two last Publications of the Royal Society {insert: Small Paper} , to the Bearer, if Mr. Wingrove [Wingrave in Maxted?] has not yet recd. them. As it is the Small Paper which Mr. H[ornsby] chooses to have on account of binding the late volumes of the same size with the preceding ones, Mr. H. wishes to know if he could be permitted to change Volumes 79 & 81 large Paper recd. by Adml. Campbell thro mistake for the small Paper. If the change can be made, Mr. H. will bring to London with him, when he next comes, the two vols & take the others in exchange." Verso address: "To N 10 Ste. Martins Street/ Mr. Robt Dell/ at Mr. 's. Seal Engraver No. 11/ Church Court/ Strand/ London". Could Mr Robertson be Abraham Robertson, later Prof. who helped Hornsby on one book at least?
