1p., 8vo. Aged and worn. Bigelow was educated at a preparatory school in Potsdam, and was a childhood playmate of the Kaiser and his younger brother, and maintained a friendship with them throughout their lives. On his death at the age of 98 he was the oldest Yale alumnus, and the oldest member of the Athenaeum club in London. The present letter – giving a good impression of an energetic American foreign correspondent – reads: 'My dear Sir | Your flattering note of the 14th reaches me this moment while I am engaged in making a Canoe Voyage from the Source to the Mouth of this most interesting stream. I shall not see the Emperor until Sept. 11th., when his headquarters are at Cassell & I join him as guest for the Imperial Manoevers – consequently it is quite out of my power to be of service to you on this occasion. | My address until August 15 is Orsova, Hungary (Postlagernd) & after that London, where they are forwarded'. At the foot of the page he writes: 'Reform Club | London} | until December when I return to New York for the Winter'.
