"On a Painting of the Fifteenth Century in the National Gallery"
Antiquarian and dramatist (1796-1880), disbound article, [12] pages, in homemade blue wraps, contents partly detached, manuscript title on front "J.R. Planche on a battlepiece in the National Gallery, July. 1878". Enclosed; Autograph note signed, tipped in, from Planche to George Scharf, artist, writer on art and director of the National Portrait Gallery (1820-1895) (Planche had collaborated with his father years before), one page, 8vo, 24 July 1878, in a shaky (aged) hand: "Dear Mr Scharf/ I send by this post a copy of my paper on the picture in the National Gallery attributed to Paolo Uccello. I regret to say without attributions[?]. It is just probable that some may be added to it and if so of course you shall have copies. The article has a few annotations in pencil, presumably by Scharf.
