16pp., 16mo. Unbound and stitched. On worn and aged paper, with loss to bottom outside corner of title leaf; spine strengthened with contemporary gummed paper. On reverse of title is a page of advertisements for 'Household Tracts for the People'. The first verse of the poem reads: 'Twas twelve o'clock one stormy night, | The rain was falling fast, | And wildly swayed the bending trees | Before the sweeping blast.' Scarce: no copy of any edition of this poem in the British Library or on COPAC, except for one copy of the third edition, at Newcastle, with the alternative title 'Poor Betsey Rayner, A Cure for Drunkenness'.
