Both letters one page, 4to, good condition. A. 13 August 1952, text: I have recently hired for the summer session several new computers, who will probably continue through the first semester as well. It is doubtful that I will have sufficient funds to add another before the second semester, and quite possibly not even then. Other members of the Department might possibly need assistance after they return for the fall semester, but I am only guessing at this. As you know, the Bureau of Occupations sometimes is able to find part-time computing work, usually of a somewhat routine nature, but with approximately the same amount of pay. | We shall, of course, be glad to have you return in the fall and to take upo your interrupted work. I am sorry that I cannot offer you more definite financial assistance; B. 18 August 1952, text: I should have mentioned in my letter of yesterday [not present] that I shall be on sabbatical leave for all of the coming year, and so no instruction in Celestail Mechanics will be offered this year. However, this will not necesarily affect your progress, because presuamblky you have distributiuonal courses to take, and everyone else will be present and offering courses. Two items,
