Author, associate of Arthur Astor Carey (1857-1923), philanthropist and social worker, of Waltham, Mass. Four, three and two pages, 8vo, respectively, good condition. (1915?). She speculates that she didb't answer his letter because "I think I wanted at first to consider asking my publishers what they thought of publishing a cheap edition of my books - as you suggested - and then I decided that they would not think it advisable . . ." She praises a pamphlet he has sent, "Libraries as Workshops", describing her early experience in libraries. She approves of his ideas and wonders if they have had an impact - though she remembers that there's a war on. She wants as much information as possible. She discusses his response to her books, has no satisfactory picture to send "and there is no sketch of my life - I drifted . . ." She briefly explains her motivation for writing a book (the need of others). (1916) She thanks him for a pamphlet and pieces from "The Pioneer", discusses family matters (Grinlings') and a cheap edition of her books which the publishers don't think "necessary". (1923) She will send his note to her publishers but they are conservative "and I doubt if they would be willing to risk a paper edition - of any one of my books. I'm glad that you think my books are useful." She gives a list of her works as requested (seven titles).
