Lessee of the Adelphi Theatre. English actress (1799-1860), wife of the actor Frederick Henry Yates (1795-1842). 2 pp, 12mo. An interesting letter to "Mrs. Yates" shedding light on the theatre mores of the period. "Mr. Beckett & Mr. Wilson two gentlemen who went together to the Adelphi on the occasion of your benefit have consulted us respecting the Conduct of the man at the door who took their money assuring them that there was room in the Boxes and on their ascertaining that there was not even a place for them to stand in not only refused to return their money or to give them Cheques for another evening but also treated them with great incivility. We have assured them that they have a clear right of action against the lessee & they are determined to bring the matter before the public that it may be seen whether gentlemen frequenting places of amusement are to be thus treated." Somewhat creased and with a circular closed tear at the foot.
