WITH. Two Autograph Letters Signed F.J.F. [F.J. Furnivall], with printed address, 2 Feb. 1872 and 17 Feb 1872, to unnamed correspondent (also interested in philology or involved with publishing?), good condition, torn edge where extracted from a book of addressed blanks[?]. Letter A (2 Feb): I am much obliged for your note, & am comforted by your feeling that the work is not out of scale for the purposes it has to fulfil. The particles & auxiliaries, except in special senses, shall {??]. The list of [?] missed words I had intended. I'll set to work at the Review tomorrow, & let you have a copy of it as soon as it's finished for final correction. Letter B (17 Feb.) Two very good questions of yours. 1 We really must have every prep[ositio]n & [?]. No one yet knows all the senses in which they are used. No one knows all the meanings of a [underlined] (I found it meaning his [underlined] the other day). Even and [underlined] is 'if' very often. 2. We must have the auxiliary [technical term unreadable by me] to show what verbs, if any, have given up be [underlined] for have [underlined] & vice versa. | I'll add a note of these to the Rules.
