Large archive of material relating to the English branch of the Washington family, assembled by American authority S. C. Pinney, comprising manuscripts, typescripts, printed extracts and offprints, photographic and other illustration, and a small batch of letters to Pinney from the English Washington expert Thomas Pape. The collection in good condition, with no more than a handful of items aged or worn. Containing a mass of obscure and difficult to obtain material, from English and American sources, mostly dating from the first two decades of the twentieth century.A. Manuscript material: ONE. Quarto manuscript volume titled 'Washington - Pedigrees and Descents', consisting of fifty-one pages of genealogical tables (beginning with 'Washington of Westmoreland'), each written (mostly out across two facing pages) in red and black ink by a calligrapher. Sewn into cream wraps, and with a typescript (4to, 2 pp) of 'Notes on the Family of Washington, Collected and Compiled by Colonel Francis Palmer Washington, R.E. (1898)' bound in at the end, before a final fold-out page, carrying a 'Chart shewing Relationship between the Spencer and Washinton Families, with some other Alliances: extracted from the descents'; TWO.
