Reads: 'My dear Sir John, | If you are disengaged on Friday next I wish you would gratify me by dining with us "en petit comité" to meet M Quetelet & one or two friends'. 'M Quetelet' is the Belgian astronomer Adolphe Quetelet (1796-1874), founder of the Brussels Observatory.
