In contemporary green crushed morocco binding, with gilt decoration to the edges of the inside covers, all edges gilt, rebacked and with new endpapers. Inscribed by Rogers on flyleaf: 'To W. E. Gladstone | from his friend, the Author.' Beneath this Gladstone has added in pencil: 'June 1838'. The volume contains a handful of light annotatory marks in pencil, no doubt also by Gladstone.
