[ Raymond Mander and Joe Mitchenson, theatre historians. ] Printed catalogue for a 'George Bernard Shaw' exhibition at the Odeon, Penge, inscribed and with several manuscript emendations.
8pp., 8vo. Unpaginated. Stapled and unbound. In fair condition, aged and worn. Foreword on 'The Raymond Mander and Joe Mitchenson Theatre Collection', and 'Introduction to the Exhibition by Raymond Mander & Joe Mitchenson'. The body of the pamphlet is taken up by a list (52 items) of 'The Plays of George Bernard Shaw in order of writing'. The final page lists the five films of plays by Shaw, with a photograph of Mander and Michenson. In manuscript at head of front cover: 'With Compliments | Raymond Mander & Joe Michenson'. The list of plays contains a number of manuscript emendations, addressed by Mander and Mitchenson to the author of a book on Shaw, and in some cases claiming to correct his mistakes. On one occasion, in correcting a date, they write 'You have 20th', and the recipient has written above this, 'I haven't!' Explaining why the title 'Shakespeare and Shav' (i.e. 'Shakes versus Shav') has been incorrectly printed as 'Shakespear and Shaw', they write, 'The Printers thought we were wrong!!!' Another note reads: 'You have Feb 3rd | V & A check with contemporary data gives 26th (John Porter has 25th but knows it is a missprint [sic])'. (The last word is misspelled throughout.) Scarce: the only copy traced on COPAC and OCLC WorldCat at the British Library.
