The collection is in good condition, with light signs of age and wear. ONE: Photocopied typescript of the beginning of a piece titled 'The Making of a Field Marshall', on the early career of Montgomery of Alamein. 10pp., 8vo. With a few autograph emendations. Ends abruptly. Apparently unpublished. TWO: Two black and white press photographs, each 13.5 x 19cm. The first captioned on reverse 'The Secretary of State for War, Mr Winston Churchill on the Grand Stand in the Grands Place at Lille watching the March Past of the 47th Division.' The second captioned 'General Montgomery with his son.' THREE: 8pp., 8vo, of autograph notes, including a page on Wavell, and three pages on Montgomery, each ending with a paragraph headed 'Conclusion'. Also three pages of chronology for 1941 and 1942. The final page headed 'Lecture Notes for N. African Campaign'. FOUR: 1p., 4to, carrying three autograph aphorisms, beginning with 'There are no bad soldiers - only bad officers.' Also present is Pitt's calling card, for British History Illustrated, Ilminster, Somerset.
