[ 8 ] pp., 8vo. Modern marbled boards and label. In good condition, lightly aged and worn. Containing 85 items by various artists (from William Kümpel, R. A. Came and J. Wolf, to Edouard Frère, John Varley, James Price and Count Gleichen), and an appendix of five 'Battle Pieces, by Christian Sell'. Features two items by Burne Jones and several by Alma Tadema, the latter being named at the head of an initial list of twenty-four 'owners of pictures' who have contributed items to the exhibition. The item was previously bound by Rossetti in a volume with two, unrelated others. It then passed into the collection of the art historian Rose Sketchley, whose sister C. J. Sketchley presented it to Fulham Public Libraries in 1949. There are a few brief pencil notes by Rossetti in the margins, largely illegible. The German Athenaeum was founded in 1869 by German artists and writers in London (and in particular Gottfried Kinkel). It closed with the advent of the First World War. Scarce: no copy on OCLC WorldCat or COPAC.
