[Henry James, novelist] Autograph Letter Signed Henry James to Miss Meredith, daughter of novelist, George Meredith whose health is the subject of the leter.
Three pages, 12mo, in his sprawling hand (see Image of pp.2&3), fold mark, good condition, laid down on part of a Meredith family album page. Text: I am full of regret & sympathy - full of commiseration for your father's ailment (his 'loss' is another affair!) which I beg you to express to him for me most loyally. He does well to take care of it & I beseech him to be intensely obedient. Let me have the hope that he & you will still let me help you to pay me this honour & - if your charity lasts - as soon as he is better - for which I pray you [?] | Yours and his most faithfully | Henry James |. Conceivably this is Meredith's final illness (died 1909). Item detached from Meredith family album contain ing letters from distinguished contemporaries such as J.R. Lowell, Thomas Hardy, Clemenceau, etc etc.
