On a thick piece of shiny card, with rounded edges, 12.5 x 18cm. Aged, and with two dog eared corners and a 3cm closed tear (not affecting illustration). On one side is the chromolithographic illustration, with 'J. N. Drummond' in the bottom right-hand corner, showing an English rural landscape - more autumnal than winter - with river in the foreground and trees and viillage with church in the background. On the other side is Cowan's eight-line poem, in fancy lettering, beginning: 'Like a silver ring flowing ruffled by no wave of care, | Skies above it brightly glowing, with no cloud of sorrow there, | May Time flow with thee, bestowing all on which thy heart is set, | Leaving in its sunny going, no memorial of regret!' No other copy traced, either on OCLC WorldCat or on Copac. Cowan, who appears to have been an Ulsterman, published a goodly amount of popular verse from the 1870s to the eve of the First World War.
