See his entry (for some unaccountable reason, being a Frenchman) in the Oxford DNB, as that of his amante the Countess of Blessington. The liaison between the two was notorious and much celebrated. Evidently given in response to a request for an autograph, and presented with an eye for the visual impact, with no additional text. Good firm bold ebullient signature, ‘Alf Cte. d’Orsay’, with double flourish, betneath seal in red wax. On 11 x 15 cm piece of paper. In good condition, but laid down on a second piece of paper, with some ruckling. The red wax seal gives a good impression of d’Orsay’s crest. It is complete, but part of the surrounding wax has crumbled away. See image.
