All 3 items are in very good condition. Item 1 is an Autograph Letter Signed of 7 October 1910, 1 page, 8vo, from George Okell, solicitor of Ross, on his letterhead, to 'F. R. James Esq | Hereford'. He is enclosing 'circulars relating to a Landowners Society, which several Landowners in this district wish to form in the County. The main object is to assist members financially in disputes with public authorities in cases, where a principle is involved, which affects all the members'. The idea was suggested by 'Mr. Power' [Manley Power], following the success of 'a combination of woodland owners in this Union in getting their assessments reduced without an appeal'. 'Sir John Cotterell specially mentioned your name as a very influential one in starting such a movement'. The two printed circulars are both 1 page, 4to. The first prints a letter from Okell, dated 'ROSS, | 7th October, 1910', explaining the aims of the association, inquiring whether the reader is willing to form 'a branch in your Union', and inviting the reader to a meeting the following Thursday. The second circular, dated September 1910, describes the foundation of the Ross Union on 9 June 1910, and the 'object of this Association'. Details of the 'entrance fee' are given, with a list of 13 individuals, including Cotterell and Power, who have 'already agreed to join'.
