4to, [ii] + 71 pp, with numerous leaves of additional manuscript and typescript material loosely inserted, as well as laid down. A few cuttings and extracts from printed works, as well as a Typed Letter Signed (17 March 1937) to Halliday from Ralph M. Williams of Yale, describing himself as 'interested in securing books, manuscripts, or other documents by or about the eighteenth century poet John Dyer'. Neatly written out in pencil and pen, on watermarked wove paper, in sturdy buckram binding. Internally in excellent condition, tight and clean, in worn binding with staining to front board. In pencil on front pastedown: 'Leicestershire Biography & Bibliography | R B Halliday | Great Glenn [sic] | 1935'. Halliday describes his method in a note on the front free endpaper: 'In general books whose only interest is that they are by Leicestershire authors are omitted from the following pages. What it is chiefly desired to record are books relating to the Town or county in any way, or by Leicestershire authors if the subject matter is of special importance. Hence, a sermon preached at (say) Ashby-de-la-Zouch, is included. But if by an Ashby man but not preached locally it is excluded.' In addition to this Halliday quotes Edwards, in his 'Memoirs of Libraries', in giving his aim as the collecting of 'the productions of local printers on whatever subject, however trivial'. The first twelve pages relate to the 'grand Phanatic' William Barton, Vicar of St Martin's, Leicester. Pp.30-49 contain material relating to 'Leicestershire Stationers', including genealogical information and family trees. Loosely inserted is an Autograph Letter Signed (5 October 1935; 12mo, 2 pp, 36 lines) from the Eastbourne bookseller E. S. Fowler, concerning the various branches of his family, and beginning 'Yes, the John Fowler who started the business in Loseley Lane was my brother'. Halliday is best-known for his handling of the Greenslade Deeds, now in the University of Durham.
