See her entry in the Oxford DNB. 14.5 x 10.5 cm black and white print on matte paper stock. In 24 x 29.5 cm folder with ‘Camera Portrait’ in fancy letters embossed on front cover, which is inscribed at bottom right: ‘To Ivan with best wishes from / Eve’. The work is attractively presented by the photographer by being laid down on a 17.5 x 15 cm rectangle of tissue paper in turn laid down on a 16.5 x 12.5 piece of black paper which shows through the tissue and is itself laid down on the recto of the second leaf of the folder. Written in pencil at bottom right of the tissue paper: ‘Nancie Foster / Richmond’. The print is in excellent condition, and the folder is good, lightly aged and with a couple of short closed tears at bottom corner of front cover. The composition of this portrait is skilful. It is a head and shoulders shot of a hooknosed woman with a Marcel wave, black dotted cowboy cravat around her neck and in black shirt, in front of white curtains, with the body placed at the right of the image, while the head and eyes turn to the left, with right arm extended outwards at the left of the image, with palm outwards and upturned cigarette. The identity of the sitter and recipient have not been established but there was or is an artist called Nancie Foster (?)..
