[ 'Edward Carrick', i.e. Edward Craig, art director, author and illustrator. ] Page proofs of his 'Designing for Moving Pictures'.
104pp., 4to. Unbound page proofs. In good condition, lightly aged and worn. In worn envelope with printed details of 'The Studio Publications', addressed to 'Edward Carrick, Esq., | G.P.O. Film Unit, | Soho Square, | London, W.C.', amended to '20 Gordon Place', 'W.8.' This was Craig's foremost work, highly influential. Comprising eight signatures of text, each initialled by him with the date 6 March 1941, seven of them with stamp in red ink: 'MARKED PROOF'; together with two signatures of illustrations on art paper, included in the pagination, one of them also signed and initalled. Between the first and second signatures is a leaf on which is written in pencil: '8pp Art to come here. | (Revised page to incorporate frontispiece, followed by pages of diagrams)'. Initialled not in another hand at head of the first page of the work: 'Have returned spare set to printer marked CK, so as not to hold him up. Folios have been adjusted as arranged.' Leaf of paper with printed 'Rough Sketch […] of H.M.S. Harpy' loosely inserted. A few minor corrections and emendations. P.8 carries an autograph ending which Craig had intended to replace that of the Foreword, but thought better of it: 'and now some words by George Pearson unknown to most men but still the greatest man in British Film – he was my old Teacher'.
