12mo, 5 pp. 78 lines. Text clear and complete. Fair, on aged paper. His unnamed correspondent's paper was sent to Russell 'by Mr Bagshawe, who expressed his opinion that it would not suit our pages'. Gives his reasons for concurring with Bagshawe, and thinking that the paper 'would to our readers be heavy & uninteresting'. The article is 'vague & in some respects superficial', as well as 'quite too comprehensive for such limits'; the writer has considered 'the theory of development as a new one, whereas it is but the old distinction of implicit & explicit faith employed by all our divines'. The Oxford DNB states that, in his Apologia Pro Vita Sua, Newman 'revealed that Russell had, perhaps, more to do with his conversion than anyone else'.
