Autograph Letter Signed ('W. Trollope') from Rev. William Trollope, classics master at Christ's Hospital, offering the London publishers Cadell & Davies his 'Analecta Theologica'. Together with the a statement of account by Cadell & Davies.
Trollope's letter: 3pp., 12mo. 48 lines. Bifolium. In fair condition, on aged paper. Addressed, with postmarks, on reverse of second leaf, to 'Messrs. Cadell & Co. | Booksellers | Strand.' Trollope begins by announcing that he has 'a work nearly ready for the Press, wh. may probably be worth your attention [...] It is designed as companion to Mr Horne's work on the Scriptures, of wh. as you are the publishers, you may perhaps have no objection to engage in another, wh. is designed to comprise whatever is not supplied in that work for the use of the Theological Student, so that the two together will contain all that is necessary to be known by a Candidate for Holy Orders.' He proceeds with his description, before stating that it is his 'wish to dispose of the Copy-right, reserving of course a consideration in regard to any future Edition'. A note from the publishers at the foot of the page reads: 'NB: Conferred Septr 20 with Mr T respecting'. Above this, in pencil in another hand: 'Blomfield's [sic] Recensio Synoptica 8V.' Accompanying the letter is the statement of account, 2pp., 12mo. In fair condition, on aged paper with chipping and a few closed tears. The first page is headed 'No. 1500 | Trollope's Analecta Theologica Vol 1.' Dated 28 December 1829, it gives the itemised costs of printing, paper, interest, '11 Copies to Stationers Hall', and advertisements, totalling £468 15s 0d. The second page is headed '1835 Augt. | Volume 2 - No. 1500', with a similar breakdown giving £543 15s 0d. At the foot of both pages are figures for 'C. H. S.' in 'bds [boards]', totalling £712 for volume 1 and £843 15s 0d for volume 2.
