Autograph Letter Signed in French from Jean de Perregaux of Neuchâtel, presenting his cousin Carle de Marval of the Red Cross to General P. Markow, Aide-de-Camp to Ferdinand I, Tsar of Bulgaria, and referring to the Battle of Kirk Kilisse.

A bifolium, with the first page (in 12mo) on the recto of the first leaf, and the second page (in 8vo) lengthwise across the verso of the first leaf and the recto of the second. In fair condition, on aged and lightly-ruckled paper. With envelope addressed by Perregaux to 'Monsieur le Général P. Markow | Aide de camp général de S. M. le Roi des Bulgares. | Sophia | Bulgarie'. On monogrammed letterhead, addressed to 'Mon cher Markow', and signed 'J de Perregaux'. Perregaux begins by stating that he was agreeably surprised by Markow's telegram 'de Gare Yamboli'. He is writing to Markow to recommend the bearer of the present letter, 'mon cousin et ami le Docteur Carle de Marval officier supérieur de notre service sanitaire suisse, qui se rend sur le théâtre de la guerre, comme délégué du bureau international de la Croix-Rouge, pour visiter les installations sanitaires des belligérants'. De Marval is the brother of Major de Marval, 'Aide de Camp du service de S. M. le Roi de Wurttemberg', whom Markow may have met. He is accompanied by his nephew Pierre de Dardel, who is acting as his secretary. Perregaux continues to follow 'les progrès de votre vaillante armée; lorsque je t'écrivais il y a dix jours nous apprenions la prise de Kirk-Kilissé', since which time the Bulgarian army has continued to advance 'a pas de géants et vous voila aux portes de Constantinople!' He hopes that the Bulgarians may enjoy the fruits of their 'victoires chèrement achetées sans que les puissances s'en mêlent'.
