[Mary Cholmondeley.] Autograph Letter Signed to fellow-novelist Frances Mary Peard
3pp., 12mo. Bifolium. Good, on lightly-aged paper, with short closed tear at head of second leaf. She begins: 'I was so disturbed and disappointed when I came in on Tuesday to find I had missed you. And I believe you had been kind enough to call when we ought to be, and almost invariably are in - after 4. | It was a very mild afternoon, so fine that we quite lost sight of how late it was getting.' She wished to thank her for her 'kind note about ', which was 'such a beautiful excuse for calling again to thank you in person!' She continues to express her desire to call, and then concludes by stating that she has just finished Peard's novel 'The Rose Garden' (1872), 'and it will require time to enable me to forgive you for your cruelty to dear Monsieur de Méhun and his chocolate creams!!'
