Beside Elwes' signature are those of the witnesses: 'Robt. Waters' and 'Wm. Nicholls'. Text on recto, with 'Sir Jeffry Elwes Kt.' in right-hand margin, beginning: 'Order is taken this 12 day of Decr. 1775 By Virtue of his Majesty's Genl. Letters of Privy Seal bearing date the 5th. day of November 1760, and in pursuance of his Royal Sign Manual dated the 4th day of December 1775, That you deliver and pay of such his Majesty's Treasure as remains in you Charge Unto Sir Jeffry Elwes Knt. Treasurer to the Governors of the Bounty of Queen Anne for the Augmentation of the Maintenance of the poor Clergy, or to his Assigns the Sum of Fourteen thousand four Hundred pounds [...]' Payment to be made 'Out of First Fruits & Tenths.'
