Autograph Letter Signed "T. Belsham", to Robert Philips, Esq.
Unitarian Divine (see DNB). Two pages, 4to, blank leaf conjoint crudely trimmed with no loss, mainly good condition. He thanks himn for a present of game and discusses health and weather. He then talks about rumours of war and Wellington saying that, as a Spanish grandee, any nation attacking Spain would find him at the head of Spanish troops. He passes on gossip that the King wants to marry a daughter of Lady Conyngham but "that the Chancellor & some others have entered demurrers - it is supected however that rather than give up their places they will give up their objections [underlined] . I wish they may: & that we nay have a prince of Wales: for I have no great fancy to any of the present heirs presumptive." He's sorry he couldn't pay a visit while in Lancashire but he was "poorly". News of friends.
