Around 140 items, laid down on 53 pp of a contemporary 37 x 25 cm stapled scrapbook. In original red and orange wraps, with 'Edinburgh Festival 1958' in manuscript on front cover. The collection is in good condition, on lightly-aged paper, with occasional items a little discoloured from mounting. The scrapbook itself is slightly grubby and ruckled. Collected by Victor Conn of Eltham, London, who was presumably responsible for the neat captions to some newspaper cuttings and other items. A nice collection of ephemera, ranging from decorative coloured programmes (many featuring designs characteristic of the period), down to the Conns' bus tickets (Scottish Omnibuses Ltd) for the journey from London to Edinburgh, and the letter of confirmation and the receipt for the bed and breakfast hotel at which they stayed while in Edinburgh. Several tourist information leaflets are also present. The first items in the volume are two circulars on letterheads of the Edinburgh International Festival. The substantial souvenir programme for the whole event is also present. During their stay the Conns managed to take in ballet (apparently a particular interest), classical music (Schumann and Stravinsky), theatre (Ionesco and Adamov, as well as Anthony Quayle in 'A Long Day's Journey Into Night'), art shows (the Moltzau Collection at the Royal Scottish Academy), film sceenings, and even an 'Exhibition of Studio Pottery' featuring Bernard Leach and Sophie Rie. Around twenty newspaper cuttings of reviews feature, taken from the New Statesman, Sunday Times, Observer, Dance and Dancers, Ballet Today. Also present are several postcards of Scotland, as well as maps and tourist information guides.
