Healy begins by thanking Duff for his letter, and 'for your generosity in sending me copies of the two letters of Daniel Defoe'. He explains that he has 'searched for their whereabouts for about ten years', and had finally become convinced 'that unless they were in your family they were lost'.

2pp., 12mo. Good, on lightly-aged paper. Reade is pleased that McCamic has returned safely from his travels, and that they 'extended as far as Venice'. He is sending the 'Barber book' by book post, and gives the price. 'A few weeks ago I had Prof. Smith from Cornell University [Albert William Smith (1856-1942), Dean of Sibley College] to see me: he is a good Johnsonian.' He has had a letter in the TLS, and asks McCamic to send his own 'Johnsonian papers'. He sends his regards, 'in which the rest of the circle join'.

12mo, 31 pp. Ruled cashbook. Bound in vellum, marbled edges and endpapers, remains of clasps. Text clear and complete, internally sound and tight, on lightly-aged paper. In Stained vellum binding. 'Registration Cash Book' in large manuscript on front cover, and 'Godolphin School Collection | Commencing Xmas 1856.' on back. The first twenty-eight pages of the volume are headed 'Cash Receipts for Fees for Registration'.

Novelist. One page, 8vo, minor defects, text clear and complete. She explians her tardy response ot his letter by saying she was abroad. She acknowledges familiarity with the works of Calverley but "I am ashamed to admit that when I wrote "The Road that Bends" [pubd 1916] = some ten years ago, I did not remember that one quotation came from his "First Love"." She thanks him for the "connection".

Author, see DNB. Two pages, 8vo, good condition, with additional biographical notes by another hand. "Will you please to read the enclosed, & ascertain for [me?] if there is a Polish translation of "Jessica" ["Jessica's First Prayer"]. My cousin, Dr Manning, several times told me it had been translated into every European laguage; but he may not have thought of Polish. /Could you also tell Mr. Stevens for me that I never received the October [no.?]. of the Leisure Hour or Sunday at Home .

One page, 4to, grubby, small pieces torn out with loss of two words and the "B" of the Bath address. "Some person having (I suppose with a view to turn my Novel into ridicule) circulated a great many Printed Letters of which I <?> one; I beg the favor[sic] of you to get the advertisement on the other side inserted in the Sun, which will be of more effect than the Bath [? prob. local paper.] / I am sorry to be so often troublesome to you [?.] I hope however you will have the goodness to excuse and am . . ." Verso has address and a note by bookseller, "Mr[s] Mathew".
