The recipient William Warde Fowler (1847-1921), a tutor at Lincoln College, Oxford, is best known for his works on ancient Roman religion. 3pp., 12mo. Bifolium. In good condition, on lightly-aged paper. The letter begins: 'The “leaping place of the old” was pointed out to my informant in one of the Slavonic (new Germanised) provinces in the Baltic. But I believe I have seen several references to it in print'.
