P.2 carries an announcement of the joint publication by 'Mr. Heinemann' and the Macmillan Company of New York 'of a new series of Greek and Latin texts with English translations on the opposite page and brief biographical prefaces. The series takes its name from Mr. James Loeb, originator of the idea, […]'. The page gives details of the plan, and p.15 carries a 'List of the First Twenty Volumes, 'Ready in September' and 'Ready in November'.

4to, 1 p. Fourteen lines. Text clear and complete. Fair, on aged paper, with negligible hole caused by wear (not affecting text). He is enclosing a 'notice of the Joint Resolution', which 'recites facts, gives reasons, & is outspoken'. He has 'not had time to dwell much on its literary shape wh. is however not of great moment'. He has 'partly read Armstrong's book' (Edward Armstrong, fellow of Queen's College?), and is 'in sympathy' with 'a considerable part of the early addresses'.

Both letters two pages, quarto. LETTER ONE (annotated in ink with some ink marks in the blank space beneath Goold's signature): Written at the point at which Goold was relinquishing the University College Latin Chair to return to Yale. 'I told you I should be visiting Yale this autumn; and now I have to tell you that I shall be going on to Stanford after Christmas till March. Still, if I shan't have the pleasure of coming in occassionally to the bookshop, it probably means that I shall be ordering more books from you!' Orders a couple of copies of Austin's 'Aeneid'.
