[ Privately printed for internal distribution, with fifteen colour illustrations of regimental colours and company badges, in dustwrapper. ] First or Grenadier Regiment of Foot Guards. Review of the Regiment by His Majesty The King.
39pp., 12mo, with an additional fifteen plates. In boards of white shiny paper, with the royal crest of King George V stamped in blue and gilt on the front cover, and with all edges (including the boards) gilt. White dustwrapper with the following printed on the front: 'Extra Copies of this Book may be had on application to the Regimental Orderly Room.' Inscribed three times (reverse of title and last leaf, and on back of a plate) by 'Col. Sergt C. Riches | 3d: Battn. Grenr Gds'. (Charles Riches served with the regiment in the Boer War.) Internally shaken but in good condition, on lightly-aged paper, in worn binding with damage at spine, and in heavily-worn and aged dustwrapper, with damage at spine and loss to back cover. The plates are printed in vivid colours (mainly red, gilt and blue) on shiny white paper, and depict the regimental colours and company badges, the latter with explanatory notes. The text of the volume consists of: the 'Order of Review', a list of the 'Officers of the Regiment', a 'History of the Colours of the First Guards', 'The King's Company Colour, or Royal Standard of the Regiment', 'Battalion Colours', 'Origin of the First or Grenadier Regiment of Guards', 'Present Title of the Regiment', 'Services of the Regiment', 'Colonels of the First Guards', Honorary Distinctions of The First or Grenadier Regiment of Foot Guards'. The note on the dustwrapper suggests that the volume was produced for internal distribution only. Scarce: the only other copy traced, either on OCLC WorldCat or on COPAC, in the National Library of Scotland.
