On one side of piece of thick wove paper, 36 x 28 cm. The design is clearly and neatly drawn, coloured in orange, gold, red, blue, brown, black, grey and pink. The banner, casting a grey shadow, is shown tied by ribbon with black, yellow and red stripes onto a spearheaded flagpole, with carved horizontal branch. The banner has a bright red ground, and is of irregular rectangular shape (curved outer lower corner), with gold tassels along the lower edge. It depicts a barefooted man and woman, the latter in Phrygian cap, striding from the left-hand (flagpole) side towards a blazing sun situated in the top right-hand corner, towards which the woman is gesturing. In decorative gold lettering across the banner (and mostly between the couple and the sun) are the words 'P.O.B. | ACTION FEMININE | SECTION | de JUPILLE | FONDÉE en 1921 | ÉMANCIPONS-NOUS | RETRAITE MUTUALITÉ'. In pencil within the sun are the words 'EMANCIPONS NOUS'. Various notes are written around the design: above it, in large letters 'La Femme Prévoyante', and in the bottom left, 'à la taille par la main <?> voir les doigts | - sujets plus grands | Retraite en ligne droite | <?> gagner la hauteur voulue | emancipons-nous dans le soleil'. Two pencil arrows indicate that the banner should be longer in shape. Numbered in manuscript in bottom left-hand corner 'N. 248/27', and with stamp in purple ink in bottom left: 'REPRODUCTION INTERDITE | PROPRIÉTÉ | de F. AFCHAIN-VANPOULLE | 106, rue Cathédrale | LIÈGE'. From sparse references on the Net It would appear that Afchain-Vanpoulle was primarily a designer of church ornament and vestment.
