[F. Carruthers Gould [‘FCG’, Sir Francis Carruthers Gould], British caricaturist and cartoonist.] Eleven Autograph Letters Signed, each to a different correspondent (Sir George Newnes; Macleod Yearsley; Charles Hobhouse and others).
See Gould's entry in the Oxford DNB, with those of Newnes and Hobhouse. All eleven items are 12mo and signed ‘F Carruthers Gould’. Some show evidence of previous mounting. The collection is in good overall condition. As assistant editor of the Westminster Gazette he thanks Mrs Elizabeth Lee for her ‘suggestion about an article on the German Theatre’; and Macleod Yearsley for his ‘sketch of Macrurus’ (‘I already had the creature in my mind as the likeness is certainly a striking one’). He asks ‘Grace’ to get ‘the little pup’ from ‘Floyd’; thanks Sir George Newnes for his congratulations on his knighthood, which he considers due to his ‘opportunities on the Westminster Gazette’; tells the future Sir Charles Hobhouse that he ‘could run up one afternoon’ if he cannot ‘find a photograph’; explains to one recipient he has given up lecturing; and provides four others with requested autographs.
