Autograph Letter Signed to his agent [unnamed].
English ecclesiastic (1729-77; DNB). 2 pages, 8vo. On paper stained and discoloured, with several small closed tears. Amusingly bad-tempered missive. 'Sale, one of the singing men of this church, has told me that he intends putting out apprentice, one of his daughters, to Mrs Earles of Bishopsgate Street, & as I am willing to assist him in doing the above good work, & knowing him to be an idle fellow I shall be glad to find out, whether there is such a Person as Mrs Earles existing, & if there is, whether she has agreed with Sale to take his daughter as an apprentice for four years (this Mrs Earles is a Mantua Maker) for six Pounds - Be so good as to enquire about this business, & let me know, as soon as you can, into the truth of it, for I have my doubts about the matter. - | When you pay Fredericks Writing Master, tell him from me, that he does not attend sufficiently to my Sons Writing, for he now writes a much worse hand, than he did a twelve month ago -'. The last paragraph concerns his son's future French master, Christopher La March of Air Street, Piccadilly. Signed 'F Exeter'. Docketed on second leaf of bifolium. See DNB: He preached to the King in support of the American Revolution.
