Hankey Wilson & Co | London', and docketed by the recipients: '496 | Ariel & Beloe | 30 Sept 1840 | recd 2 Oct [1840] | no answer'. An early form of stock market report, in the form of a circular. Engraved copperplate text with facsimile signature. At the head of the first page, beneath the title, is a table giving 'Imports' and 'Stocks' of sugar, rum and coffee from 'West India', 'East India' and Mauritius. Beneath the table begins the text, which has the subheadings: 'East India', 'Mauritius', 'Molasses' ('About 80 Casks per Earl of Liverpool & Marys from Nevis - the quality of which was very inferior, - were sold ex-Ship at the early part of the month, bu the price has not transpired.'), 'Spirits', 'Fruit', 'Coffee & Cocoa', 'Dye Woods, &c.' and 'Olive Oil'. Genuine manuscript note to 'East India' entry at foot of page: '3000 Bags have been since taken by the Refiners at prices ranging from 75/@ 86/ for low Brown to middling white.'
