[ George Pitt, 1st Baron Rivers [ Lord Rivers ]. ] Autograph Letter Signed ('Rivers') to the engraver John Keyse Sherwin, regarding assistance he may be able to give him in a 'Business' concerning the King's engraver.
2pp., 8vo. In fair condition, on lightly aged and worn paper. Addressed to 'Dear Sherwin'. He assures him of his desire to 'assist in seconding [his] wishes', explaining regarding the circumstances: 'I suppose ye honest Gentleman whom the Advertisement concerns, must have been the King's Engraver, tho' you do not say so, nor does the Advertisement import it. I cannot but wish that you had yourself found out to whom Application is to be made upon this Occasion, for I am quite in the dark as to that necessary Article; and, as I sincerely wish you Success, I must hope that you have other Irons in the Fire, and that you have not depended totally upon me, uninform'd as I am of every particular concerning the Business in question.' He continues in the same firm tone, explaining the circumstances under which he would be pleased to send a letter of recommendation.
