Written in a neat, close hand (not Bernard's) on one page (the recto of the first leaf of a 12mo bifolium). Twenty-one lines. Text clear and complete. On aged, grubby and lightly-creased paper. The document gives four questions, with Bernard's reply following in quotation marks: 'Ladies who have been presented - do their husbands accompany them when they are received by the queen on the new year?', 'Ladies who are not presented - do their husbands or male relations accompany them, when presented to the Queen at the next presentation or do they go alone?', 'Gentlemen who call on new-year's day - do they go in uniform or court dress, or do they go in frock?'
