The letter begins: 'Sir | The President of the Board of Control has been pleased to present me with a Seminary Cadetship for Mr Robt. Campbell a youth of 16, son of John Campbell Esq of Kilberry in the County of Argyle. - Mr Campbell the father has written to me to ask whether as the vacation at Addiscombe is just going to commence his son's attendance in London might not be dispensed with till towards the end of the vacation.' Campbell will be obliged to receive 'the necessary information upon this subject'. The father is willing to bring his son to London immediately, but 'if the delay will not be objected to at the Board of Control or the East India house he wishes to wait till January'.
