1p, 8vo. Fifteen lines of text, in green ink. In fair condition, lightly aged, folded twice, with short closed tear to edge of one crease. Signed 'Sybil Thorndike'. Although 'deeply gratified', her 'present duties' will detain her 'at the Theatre every evening until 11 o/c', so that she will not be able to 'act as a Steward at the Anniversary of the Royal Literary Fund at the Guildhall, next Wednesday'. She adds: 'I have much regret not being able to accede to your request which has come at a time when pressure of work is very acute.' She ends with thanks for secretary's 'great courtesy', and renewed expression of regret at her 'inability to attend the function'.
